Cholistan University, ICCBS Karachi Sign MoU to Promote Livestock Genomics Research

KARACHI: The Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS), Bahawalpur, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, to promote collaboration in livestock genomics and related academic and research activities.

The agreement was signed during a visit of the CUVAS delegation, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz, to ICCBS at the University of Karachi. The MoU was formally signed by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah, Director ICCBS, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz on behalf of their respective institutions. Senior officials from both sides were present at the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah said ICCBS is among the leading centers of excellence in chemical, biological and biochemical sciences, serving as a hub for research and training scholars from different countries. He said the center has earned international recognition and has been designated as a Centre of Excellence by UNESCO, WHO, TWAS and the OIC. He added that the MoU would enable both institutions to collaborate in line with international academic standards and national regulations under mutually agreed terms.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz said CUVAS, as a public-sector university, is focused on addressing industry needs through comprehensive degree programs, research initiatives, advanced technology centers and professional services. He said the university is committed to contributing to economic growth and creating business opportunities through research commercialization, particularly in the livestock sector of South Punjab and across Pakistan. He added that CUVAS emphasizes research-based teaching to equip students with quality education and professional skills.

Under the MoU, both institutions will facilitate the exchange of faculty members, researchers and experts for research, teaching and knowledge sharing. They will also undertake joint research programs and develop collaborative proposals for submission to national and international funding agencies. The agreement further provides opportunities for participation in conferences, symposia, seminars and workshops organized by either institution.
