KARACHI: The Government of Sindh Health Department has transferred and posted Dr. Ashique Hussain Shah as District Health Officer (DHO) East Karachi with immediate effect, a move widely welcomed by the health fraternity.
According to an official notification issued on April 21, 2026, Dr. Ashique Hussain Shah, a Senior Medical Officer (BS-19), was previously serving as Additional District Health Officer (ADHO) in District South Karachi. He has now been assigned the charge of DHO East, replacing Dr. Zahid Hussain Solangi, who has been directed to report to the Health Department.
Dr. Ashique Hussain Shah brings extensive experience in public health and administration. He has served for 10 years as Medical Superintendent in a private hospital and has also worked for a decade in the MNCH (Maternal, Newborn and Child Health) Program Sindh. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he performed key responsibilities as Technical Officer and Focal Person for three years in the Sindh Health Department.
He has also held positions as Deputy District Health Officer (DDHO) in the RMNCH program and as Additional District Health Officer (Admin) in District South Karachi.
Members of the health fraternity have welcomed the appointment, terming it a positive step and expressing hope that his experience will contribute to strengthening health service delivery in District East.
The notification was issued with the approval of the competent authority and signed by Secretary Health Sindh, Tahir Hussain Sangi.
