ISLAMABAD: The first nationwide polio immunisation campaign of 2026 has concluded successfully, with more than 44.3 million children administered polio drops across the country, according to the National Emergency Operations Centre.
In an official statement, the National EOC thanked all relevant stakeholders for their cooperation and active participation in ensuring the smooth and effective implementation of the campaign. The statement paid special tribute to frontline polio workers and security personnel, describing them as the nation’s real heroes for their dedication and sacrifices during the campaign.
According to provincial data, over 22.9 million children were vaccinated in Punjab, more than 10.5 million in Sindh, over 7.13 million in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, more than 2.36 million in Balochistan, and over 455,000 children in Islamabad. In Gilgit-Baltistan, approximately 261,000 children received polio drops, while more than 673,000 children were vaccinated in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The National EOC further stated that the first national polio campaign of 2026 was conducted simultaneously in Pakistan and Afghanistan as part of coordinated cross-border efforts to interrupt poliovirus transmission.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to continuing sustained and coordinated immunisation efforts until polio is completely eradicated from the region.
