KARACHI: The Hashmanis Group of Hospitals, known for one of the specialized healthcare facility in the city, has fired it's 160 workers without any justified reason at once adding more unemployment in the industry, it's learnt recently by this scribe.
The Hashmanis Hospital, located at the famous M. A. Jinnah Road in Numaish area, is a brain child of the legendary eye surgeon Dr. Sharif Hashmani and still considered one of the best eye care facility available in Karachi in private sector. It was catering need of patient in need of eye care services for long untill Arsalan Hashmani, son of Dr. Sharif Hashmani took the charge as CEO of hospital progressing it into Hashmanis Group of Hospitals few years back, sources told.
The hospital added few more general healthcare departments under it's umbrella But before few weeks, the administration under the leadership of young Arsalan Hashmani decided to lay off more than 160 employees, many of them were working since decades there at once. This decision not only shocked the employees, their families but also added more numbers in unemployment population in the industry, sources told.
Affected employees told health matters that they considered the hospital as their family entity and worked day and night for it's progress. "We never felt alone or as an employee until Dr. Sharif Hashmani was leading the hospital. We never thought of such lay off at these crucial times when everyone is struggling to both ends meet," they shared.
There was no graduity, no funds or other retirement benefits for us which we could receive when fired. We were just received a one month notice to loose the much needed job, they lamented.
There is also information that Hashmanis Hospital is closing down it's general services and limiting it back towards eye care services only. The fate of it's diagnostic department is also not clear after this huge lay off, sources forther told.
This scribe contacted CEO Hashmanis Group of Hospitals Mr. Arsalan Hashmani and one of his advisors for their version and reasons why employees were fired but got no reply from both of them. One of his (CEO) advisors requested health matters to wait for their version. This scribe waited for two weeks but hospital management didn't share it's official stance on it. However, they can contact this scribe anytime for their version.
