Pakistan Vaccinates Over 33M Children as National Measles–Rubella Campaign Concludes Successfully

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has successfully completed the 2025 National Measles–Rubella (MR) and Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) campaign, vaccinating more than 33 million children across the country. The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (MNHSR&C), through the Federal Directorate of Immunization (FDI), announced that the nationwide drive surpassed expectations by achieving over 95 percent MR coverage, marking one of the most successful immunization campaigns in recent years.

The campaign was conducted across all provinces and regions—Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Islamabad. Provincial and district health teams maintained coverage above 95 percent through school-based vaccination, community outreach, and door-to-door mobilization backed by teachers, local influencers and religious leaders. Officials said these efforts played a vital role in reaching remote and high-risk communities.

FDI reported that operational performance remained strong throughout the drive, with more than 284,000 vaccination sessions monitored by federal, provincial, district and union council-level teams to ensure compliance with standards. Reporting accuracy reached 98 percent, reflecting effective coordination between national and subnational levels.

The Sehat Tahaffuz Helpline 1166 also played a crucial role in public engagement, receiving over 3,000 MR-related calls, all of which were addressed promptly. Vaccine safety surveillance remained robust, with all reported adverse events handled and investigated in line with national protocols.

The federal health ministry and FDI extended appreciation to provincial EPI teams, vaccinators, supervisors, social mobilizers, teachers, volunteers, religious leaders and local administrations for their commitment. Officials also acknowledged the technical and logistical support of UNICEF, WHO, Gavi and civil society partners. Above all, the ministry praised parents and caregivers for ensuring their children received essential vaccines.

The final nationwide polio vaccination drive of 2025 will take place from December 15 to 21, targeting more than 45 million children. Parents have been urged to ensure that every child receives polio drops during the campaign.

Health authorities said the successful completion of the 2025 MR campaign reaffirms Pakistan’s resolve to eliminate measles, control rubella and provide high-quality immunization services to millions of children nationwide.
