CDC Issues Ongoing Dengue Risk Advisory for South Asia Including Pakistan

Atlanta: The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has maintained its travel health advisory warning about year-round dengue transmission in several South Asian countries, including Pakistan.

The advisory urges travelers and residents to adopt preventive measures against mosquito bites, particularly in urban and peri-urban areas. Public health experts note that dengue cases have shown seasonal spikes across the region, placing pressure on healthcare systems during monsoon months. Authorities stress the importance of vector control, early diagnosis and public awareness campaigns to reduce transmission.

Pakistan Reports Chikungunya Cases in Latest International Surveillance Update

Stockholm: The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control’s latest communicable disease surveillance report has listed Pakistan among countries reporting chikungunya virus infections in 2026. The mosquito-borne viral illness, which causes fever and severe joint pain, has been detected in parts of Sindh province. Health authorities are monitoring the situation closely and advising preventive measures similar to those used against dengue. Experts warn that climate variability and urbanization may contribute to the continued spread of vector-borne diseases across South Asia.

WHO Warns South Asia Faces Rising Anaemia Burden Among Women and Girls

New Delhi: The World Health Organization has warned that without urgent policy action, an additional 18 million women and girls in South Asia could be affected by anaemia by 2030. The regional health body highlighted iron deficiency, poor nutrition and limited access to maternal healthcare as major contributing factors. Public health specialists say Pakistan is among countries facing a high prevalence of anaemia, particularly among pregnant women and adolescents. WHO has called for strengthened nutrition programmes, food fortification initiatives and improved primary healthcare services to address the growing burden.
