C-Section Video at Lady Willingdon Hospital Sparks Outrage; Four Doctors Suspended

LAHORE: A video allegedly showing doctors performing Caesarean section procedures in a “competitive” manner at Lady Willingdon Hospital has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread concern and prompting immediate action by health authorities.

According to reports, the footage shows two medical teams conducting C-section surgeries simultaneously, creating the impression of a race to complete the procedures. The incident has raised serious questions about medical ethics, patient safety, and professional conduct in public hospitals.
Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique took notice of the matter and termed it a serious violation of medical ethics and patient dignity. He directed the health department to initiate an inquiry and ensure strict action against those responsible.

Following the directive, four postgraduate trainee doctors have been suspended. The hospital’s Medical Superintendent and the head of the gynecology department have been asked to submit their explanations within a given timeframe.

Punjab Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood has also constituted an inquiry committee to investigate the incident. Officials stated that strict disciplinary action will be taken if negligence or misconduct is established.

Authorities reiterated that the use of mobile phones during medical procedures is strictly prohibited and emphasized that any breach of standard protocols will not be tolerated.

Lady Willingdon Hospital is a major public-sector teaching hospital in Lahore, primarily providing healthcare services to women and mothers.
