KARACHI: Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Nighat Shah as the new Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University.
Prof. Nighat Shah, MBBS, MCPS, FCPS, MRCOG, FRCOG, is a highly accomplished clinician, researcher, and academic leader who currently serves as Head of the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Ward 9-B, at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). She is also the founder of Pakistan’s first public sector infertility centre, a pioneering contribution to women’s health and reproductive medicine in the country.
In addition to her clinical and academic excellence, Dr. Shah serves as the Focal Person on Population Welfare for the Government of Sindh, actively contributing to public health policy and advocacy for reproductive health and family planning.
Under her dynamic leadership, Ward 9-B has emerged as a centre of excellence in women’s health, housing three subspecialties—Maternal Fetal Medicine, Gynae-Oncology, and a Kangaroo Mother Care unit—with both Maternal Fetal Medicine and Gynae-Oncology recognized for fellowship training by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP).
The department has successfully secured international grants exceeding USD 40,000 to advance its clinical services and research initiatives. Notably, it remains the only unit in Pakistan offering training for FCPS, MCPS, MRCOG, and second fellowships in both Maternal Fetal Medicine and Gynae-Oncology, serving as a unique hub for the next generation of specialists.
“I am confident that Dr. Nighat Shah’s leadership will further elevate JSMU’s standards of excellence and innovation,” said Prof. Dr. Amjad Siraj Memon, Vice Chancellor, Jinnah Sindh Medical University.
Jinnah Sindh Medical University extends heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Nighat Shah on this well-deserved appointment and looks forward to the transformative impact her leadership will bring to the institution and the broader healthcare community.
