Health Reporters Association Delegation Visits Wasim Hashmi, Condemns Attack and Assures Support

KARACHI: A delegation of the Health Reporters Association (HRA) visited Channel Five News health reporter Wasim Hashmi at his office and strongly condemned the attack on him, assuring full support and solidarity.

The delegation included Convener Akhtar Shaheen Rind, Deputy Convener Imran Pirzada, and members Rizwan Jalali, Irfan Abbasi, and Shariq Mangrio.

The delegation strongly denounced the attack carried out by quacks during coverage on Wasim Hashmi and his team, as well as what they termed the traditional incompetence of the police.

Speaking on the occasion, Akhtar Shaheen Rind said that the Sindh Healthcare Commission has failed to take effective action against quackery, allowing it to evolve into a mafia. He added that the attack on a news team in the presence of police reflects alleged patronage at the level of the concerned police station, and urged the Healthcare Commission to improve its performance.

Imran Pirzada stated that the continued silence of the Provincial Health Secretary and the Sindh Healthcare Commission amounts to encouragement of quackery, creating the impression that the health department is effectively backing such elements.

The Health Reporters Association demanded immediate action against those involved in the attack on Wasim Hashmi.
