Hemophilia Welfare Society Plans District-Level Outreach Programme in Hyderabad to Improve Bleeding Disorder Care

HYDERABAD: The Hemophilia Welfare Society Karachi (HWSK) has initiated efforts to expand diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation services for patients suffering from hemophilia and other bleeding disorders in Hyderabad Division through its proposed District-Level Hemophilia Outreach Camps and Awareness Programme 2026.

In this regard, Raheel Ahmed, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hemophilia Welfare Society Karachi, accompanied by Chief Coordinator Abbas Ali and Dr. Rukhsanda Nadeem, held a meeting with Dr. Irshad Kazmi, Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Hyderabad, to discuss collaborative initiatives aimed at improving healthcare facilities for patients with inherited bleeding disorders.

During the meeting, the HWSK delegation presented its proposed district-level outreach programme, which includes hemophilia awareness seminars, diagnostic screening camps, physiotherapy assessments and patient counselling services to identify undiagnosed cases and prevent avoidable disabilities associated with bleeding disorders.

The programme is planned with programmatic support from the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) through its PACT Programme 2026 and Roche Pakistan, in collaboration with the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority (SBTA) and Civil Hospital Hyderabad.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of establishing a dedicated Hemophilia Treatment Center at Civil Hospital Hyderabad to provide specialized medical care, early diagnosis, treatment guidance and rehabilitation support to patients suffering from hemophilia and other bleeding disorders.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Irshad Kazmi expressed encouragement and support for the proposed initiative and assured cooperation in facilitating district-level awareness and screening activities at the hospital.

Raheel Ahmed emphasized that many patients suffering from inherited bleeding disorders remain undiagnosed or face serious complications due to delayed diagnosis, inadequate access to specialized treatment and limited rehabilitation facilities, particularly in underserved districts.

He said that early detection, appropriate treatment and physiotherapy interventions could significantly reduce preventable disabilities, joint damage and other complications associated with hemophilia.

He further stated that the society aims to bring comprehensive bleeding disorder care closer to patients and their families by strengthening collaboration with public healthcare institutions across Sindh.

The HWSK delegation appreciated the cooperation and facilitative approach of Dr. Irshad Kazmi and acknowledged the valuable support of Dr. Durnaz Jamal, Secretary of the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority, in facilitating the engagement.

The proposed outreach programme is expected to strengthen awareness, improve patient identification and encourage institutional collaboration for the development of sustainable hemophilia care services across Hyderabad Division.

The initiative forms part of HWSK's broader efforts to expand access to diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and patient support services for individuals living with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders throughout Sindh.
