MIRPURKHAS: The Hemophilia Welfare Society Karachi Pakistan (HWSK) has initiated efforts to establish a dedicated Hemophilia Treatment Center at DHQ Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas to provide specialized healthcare services to patients suffering from hemophilia and other bleeding disorders in the district and surrounding areas.

The initiative was discussed during a meeting between HWSK Founder and Chief Executive Officer Raheel Ahmed and Medical Superintendent of DHQ Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas, Dr. Hemji Chauhan, aimed at expanding access to diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and patient support services.

The meeting was attended by Abbas Ali, Chief Coordinator of HWSK; Shahid Saleem, Director of Social Affairs; Dr. Dongar Sham, HWSK Focal Person; and Dr. Majid, Orthopedic Surgeon at Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas. Dr. DureNaz Jamal, Secretary of the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority (SBTA), provided facilitation and support for the engagement.

During the meeting, participants discussed plans to organize a district-level hemophilia awareness seminar, free physiotherapy assessments and a diagnostic screening camp to identify, assess and register patients suffering from inherited bleeding disorders who currently lack access to specialized healthcare facilities.

The proposed Hemophilia Treatment Center at DHQ Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas would be developed under a government–HWSK partnership model, following similar collaborative initiatives at Civil Hospital Sanghar and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in Karachi.
According to HWSK officials, the establishment of the proposed center would provide much-needed relief to patients and their families in Mirpurkhas and adjoining districts, many of whom currently have to travel long distances to Karachi for specialized medical consultations and treatment.
They said that repeated journeys to Karachi not only impose a significant financial burden on families but also create physical and emotional difficulties for patients requiring regular medical care.
The proposed initiative aims to improve early diagnosis, patient registration, physiotherapy, medical assessment and referral services while helping prevent avoidable complications associated with untreated or inadequately managed bleeding disorders.
HWSK Founder and CEO Raheel Ahmed emphasized the importance of expanding specialized hemophilia care beyond major urban centers and ensuring that patients living in underserved districts receive timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment closer to their homes.
He said the society remained committed to strengthening partnerships with public healthcare institutions to improve the quality of life of people affected by hemophilia and other bleeding disorders.
HWSK expressed appreciation to Medical Superintendent Dr. Hemji Chauhan and SBTA Secretary Dr. DureNaz Jamal for their cooperation and facilitation, as well as to the healthcare professionals who participated in the meeting.
The society reiterated its commitment to expanding accessible and comprehensive bleeding disorder care across Sindh, stressing that no patient should be deprived of essential treatment simply because of geographical location.
The proposed center, if established, would represent another step towards strengthening district-level healthcare services and reducing disparities in access to specialized hemophilia treatment in the province.
