KARACHI: The Islamic chamber of commerce & development (ICCD) and the Halal certification testing and research services (HCTRS) at the International center for chemical and biological sciences (ICCBS), university of karachi, have signed a landmark agreement to jointly promote halal certification and its development.
The agreement was formalized at a meeting held in karachi, where prof. dr. muhammad raza shah, director of iccbs, and sheikh yousef hasan khalawi, secretary general of ICCD, signed on behalf of their respective organizations. Prof. Dr. Syed abid ali and other senior officials from both sides attended the ceremony.
ICCD, headquartered in karachi and affiliated with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), represents the private sector of OIC member states through national chambers of commerce and private-sector bodies.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Raza shah described the partnership as a milestone for halal testing and research in pakistan. he highlighted that HCTRS, a halal certification body established within ICCDs at the hej research institute of chemistry, provides certification, testing, research, and training services, while ICCDs itself is one of pakistan’s premier centers of excellence in chemical, biological, and biochemical sciences.
Under the agreement, ICCD and HCTRS will collaborate on creating frameworks for halal certification, establishing a database for halal research, developing a global network of halal testing centers, and producing scientific and educational materials to strengthen the halal industry and support future initiatives.
