NED University Students Plant Trees, Pledge Long-Term Care Until Graduation

KARACHI: Newly enrolled students of NED University have planted trees on the university campus as part of a sustainability initiative organised by Treow Carbon Solutions with the support of Meezan Bank.

Unlike conventional one-day plantation drives, the initiative includes a long-term commitment from participating students to care for and monitor the trees throughout their time at the university, enabling them to witness their growth until graduation.

Mehboob Alam, Head of MEP-Engineering, Sustainability-CSR and HSE at Meezan Bank, said that planting a tree was only the beginning and that its real value came from the responsibility that followed. He said involving students in continued tree care would help develop a stronger sense of ownership and environmental responsibility.

Treow Carbon Solutions worked with NED University to plan the activity and develop a structured approach for continued tree care. The initiative focuses on factors considered important for tree survival, including appropriate species selection, soil preparation, proper planting, watering and regular monitoring.

Mudabbir Maajid, Co-founder of Treow Carbon Solutions, said the trees could become a lasting reminder of the students' time at NED University. He expressed hope that by the time they graduate, students would be able to see how their continued care had contributed to making the university greener.

The collaboration between NED University, Treow Carbon Solutions, Meezan Bank and participating students highlights an approach aimed at taking campus greening beyond one-day plantation campaigns through technical planning, monitoring and shared responsibility.
