Sindh Health Department Links Biometric Attendance to Improve Performance and Governance

KARACHI: In a move aimed at strengthening governance, accountability, and overall performance in the public health sector, the Sindh Health Department has made it mandatory for all government health facilities to submit monthly biometric attendance reports of their employees.

According to an official circular issued by the Health Department, all medical superintendents and heads of health facilities have been directed to submit the reports in soft form through designated digital channels. The directive covers all tertiary, secondary, district headquarters (DHQ), and taluka headquarters (THQ) hospitals across Sindh.

The department stated that the biometric attendance data will be used to closely monitor staff presence, identify gaps in human resource deployment, and take timely corrective measures to curb absenteeism. Officials believe that regular monitoring through biometric systems will help ensure that health professionals are available during duty hours, ultimately leading to improved patient care and service delivery.

Declaring compliance mandatory, the circular instructs all concerned authorities to submit the required reports by the 5th of each following month. The initiative is being viewed as a positive step toward reinforcing institutional discipline, enhancing workforce efficiency, and promoting transparency within the public health system.

Health sector observers have appreciated the decision, noting that effective use of biometric attendance can significantly contribute to better governance, improved performance of health facilities, and restoration of public trust in government-run hospitals. The circular, issued with the approval of the Secretary to the Government of Sindh, has been circulated to all senior health officials for implementation and necessary action.
