KARACHI: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) – JPMC Unit has expressed deep concern over the non-payment of salaries to house officers and postgraduate resident trainee doctors for several months. According to YDA representatives, house officers have not received their salaries for the past four months, while postgraduate trainees have been waiting for two months despite repeated reminders to the administration.
In a statement, the association warned that if the pending salaries are not credited to the doctors’ accounts within the next three (3) days, the YDA will be compelled to launch a protest. The association announced that a strong demonstration will be held in front of Najmuddin Auditorium on Friday, where services in the Outpatient Department (OPD), wards, and operation theatres will be suspended.
The YDA emphasized that the responsibility for any disruption in hospital services will lie entirely with the JPMC administration and the concerned authorities.
The statement added that while the association has always worked for the betterment of patients and the institution, the prolonged delay in salary payments has created severe financial and mental stress among young doctors.
The YDA concluded that if the issue remains unresolved, it will announce its future course of action after three days and reserves the right to peaceful protest.
