JSMU celebrates Pakistan–Turkey friendship week with cultural festivities and film screening

KARACHI: Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Amjad Siraj Memon, Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) celebrated Pakistan–Turkey Friendship Week as per the directions of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), highlighting the strong and historic bond between the two brotherly nations through culture, art, and education.

The week began with a flag hoisting ceremony, where the national flags of Pakistan and Turkey were raised and the anthems of both countries were played. Faculty, staff, and students participated with great enthusiasm.

A Turkish film titled “Amentü (Aqeeda)” was screened, depicting themes of faith, patience, and family values, leaving a deep impression on the audience.

Vice Chancellor Professor Amjad Siraj Memon appreciated the initiative, stating that Pakistan and Turkey share a friendship rooted in compassion, mutual respect, and shared values. He said that such events promote cultural understanding and unity among students and educators.

A special lecture titled “Understanding Rumi” was delivered by renowned poet and scholar Mr. Hijaz Naqvi, who shared insights into Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi’s timeless message of love, peace, and spirituality.

The event was attended by Registrar Dr. Azam Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Nighat Shah, Principal SMC Professor Ambreen Usmani, faculty members, staff, and students. Students also set up cultural stalls featuring traditional Pakistani and Turkish cuisines, symbolizing friendship and togetherness.

Guests enjoyed steaming cups of Turkish tea, courtesy of Vital Tea. Registrar Dr. Azam Khan appreciated the Organizing Committee for their dedicated efforts, noting that the event beautifully reflected the spirit of unity and collaboration between Pakistan and Turkey.
