Sindh health department reports 1,558 new dengue cases in 24 hours

KARACHI: The Sindh Health Department has released its latest report on confirmed dengue cases across the province, showing that 1,558 people tested positive in the past 24 hours out of a total of 5,742 tests conducted.

According to the report, Karachi Division conducted 4,010 tests, with 758 positive cases, while Hyderabad Division carried out 1,732 tests and reported 800 positive cases. During the same period, 81 new dengue patients were admitted to government hospitals and 68 to private hospitals. Meanwhile, 58 patients were discharged from government hospitals and 25 from private hospitals after recovery. Two dengue-related deaths were reported in government hospitals within the last 24 hours.

Currently, 201 dengue patients are admitted to government hospitals and 180 in private hospitals across the province. For patient care, 895 beds have been reserved in government hospitals — including 251 in Karachi, 116 in Hyderabad, and 528 in interior Sindh. Additionally, private hospitals have allocated 329 beds — 132 in Karachi, 161 in Hyderabad, and 36 in other districts.

Health Secretary Rehan Baloch stated that 36 laboratories are conducting dengue testing in Karachi, including 13 government and 23 private labs. In Hyderabad, 18 laboratories are active, with 7 government and 11 private facilities.

He further informed that 2,090 confirmed dengue cases have been reported across Sindh this month, bringing the total for 2025 to 2,735 cases. Karachi has reported 1,005 cases this month, Hyderabad 938, Mirpurkhas 114, Sukkur 13, Shaheed Benazirabad 14, and Larkana 6 cases.

Rehan Baloch also announced a significant reduction in the prices of diagnostic tests to provide relief to the public. The malaria test fee has been reduced from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 600, the dengue test from Rs. 3,450 to Rs. 1,100, the dengue combo test from Rs. 4,150 to Rs. 1,500, and the follow-up CBC test from Rs. 1,250 to Rs. 500.

Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho said that the health department is closely monitoring all dengue cases and urged citizens not to believe unverified information circulating on social media. She added that the government is actively conducting anti-dengue campaigns, including fumigation, spraying, and improving drainage systems across all districts.

Deputy Commissioners and district health officers have been directed to ensure that stagnant water is not allowed to accumulate anywhere, as it serves as the primary breeding ground for mosquitoes.
