ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) has concluded its three-day National CME/CPD Capacity-Building Workshop, reaffirming its commitment to establishing a transparent, credible and internationally aligned system for continuous professional development of doctors and dentists across Pakistan.
The workshop, titled “Designing High-Impact CME/CPD: From Concept to Completion,” was held from August 27 to 29 in Islamabad and brought together institutional leaders, medical educationists, faculty members and representatives of medical and dental institutions from across the country.
Ms. Farah Naz Akbar, Parliamentary Secretary for National Heritage & Culture, attended the closing ceremony as Chief Guest, along with PM&DC President Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj, Registrar Brig. Dr. Rehan Naqvi, faculty members, participants and senior officials.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj said Continuing Medical Education and Continuing Professional Development were essential to ensure healthcare professionals remained abreast of advances in medical science and clinical practice.
He said PM&DC was committed to developing a CME/CPD system in line with international best practices, with the objective of ensuring that Pakistani doctors and dentists remain up to date in their knowledge, skills and professional practice.
Prof. Taj also thanked Dr. Natasha from Aga Khan University, who facilitated the three-day workshop, for sharing her expertise and guiding participants on different aspects of effective CME/CPD design, implementation and evaluation.
Chief Guest Farah Naz Akbar appreciated the PM&DC initiative and commended the Council’s efforts to strengthen the regulatory framework for medical and dental education and professional development.
Registrar PM&DC Brig. Dr. Rehan Naqvi highlighted the milestones achieved by the Council and described the CME/CPD initiative as an important step towards strengthening professional standards and promoting a culture of continuous learning among registered medical and dental practitioners.
The workshop covered the complete CME/CPD cycle, including identification of professional practice gaps and educational needs, development of measurable learning objectives, educational design, integrity and independence, evaluation of outcomes, governance, documentation, monitoring and quality assurance.
Participants also shared their reflections and expressed interest in continued engagement with PM&DC and similar capacity-building activities. They particularly appreciated the practical orientation of the workshop and its focus on developing a sustainable culture of continuous professional learning.
PM&DC said the initiative was part of its broader efforts to establish a credible and internationally aligned CME/CPD framework aimed at supporting lifelong learning, strengthening professional competence, improving patient care and enhancing the global recognition of Pakistani medical and dental professionals.
