KARACHI: A Regional Fistula Centre has been established at Koohi Goth Hospital to provide free-of-cost treatment to women suffering from obstetric fistula a painful and socially isolating childbirth complication.
Announcing the development, Professor Tipu Sultan said that the centre will offer comprehensive medical care, surgery, and post-operative rehabilitation completely free of charge. He described fistula as a severe childbirth-related complication that leaves affected women incontinent, unable to control the discharge of urine or stool, and often subject to social exclusion and embarrassment.
“The establishment of this centre brings new hope to women suffering in silence,” said Professor Tipu Sultan, adding that Koohi Goth Hospital is now equipped to provide specialized fistula surgeries and follow-up care for all patients in need.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho, along with representatives of UNFPA, UNICEF, and other partner organizations.
Experts at the event emphasized that the new facility would play a vital role in restoring dignity and improving the quality of life for women affected by this preventable condition, while also strengthening maternal health services across Sindh.
