KARACHI: The Government of Sindh, Universities and Boards Department has imposed an immediate and complete ban on the use of all tobacco and nicotine products — including cigarettes, vapes, heated tobacco products, and nicotine pouches — across all public and private educational institutions in Sindh.
According to the official notification issued by Muhammad Abbas Balcoh, Secretary to the Government of Sindh, the ban aims to ensure a smoke-free and healthy environment in all universities, colleges, and educational boards operating in the province.
The notification further stated that the Sindh government has adopted a Zero Tolerance Policy against the use of drugs and narcotics within educational premises. It emphasized that strict action will be taken against any form of delinquency or non-compliance, and those found responsible will face disciplinary and legal consequences in accordance with the law.
The directive has been sent to the Chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC), Vice Chancellors of all public sector universities, and heads of major educational boards and training institutes, including IBA Karachi, BBSHRRDB, and Sindh TEVTA, with instructions to submit compliance reports to the Provincial Tobacco Control Cell (PTCC-Sindh).
Officials said the move reflects the provincial government’s commitment to protecting youth from the harmful effects of tobacco, nicotine addiction, and drug use, while promoting a healthier academic environment.
Educational institutions have been directed to immediately implement the ban and display awareness materials on campuses, reinforcing Sindh’s broader anti-tobacco and anti-drug efforts.
