KARACHI: Young Doctors Association (YDA) JPMC Unit on Tuesday staged a protest against the non-payment of salaries to house officers and postgraduate doctors for the past three months, warning of an expanded protest if the issue is not resolved within the next few days.
As part of the protest, doctors serving in the Outpatient Department (OPD), operation theatres (OTs) and other hospital services wore black armbands to register their concern over the prolonged delay in salary payments.
According to YDA JPMC Unit, house officers and postgraduate doctors have remained without salaries for the past three months, causing serious financial difficulties for the affected doctors.
Dr. Shahid Awan, President of YDA JPMC Unit, called upon the hospital administration to provide a clear response within three to four days regarding when the outstanding salaries of house officers and postgraduate doctors would be transferred to their accounts.
He warned that if a clear assurance regarding payment of the pending salaries was not provided within the stipulated period, YDA JPMC Unit would be compelled to announce its next course of protest.
The association said that further peaceful protest measures, including possible boycotts of operation theatres, wards and OPDs, could be considered if the salary issue remained unresolved.
