8 Doctorates in One Family: Pakistani-American Household Sets Unmatched Academic Record

Karachi/New York: In a rare academic milestone, a Pakistani-American family has collectively earned eight doctoral degrees from globally renowned institutions, setting a remarkable precedent of educational excellence within the diaspora community.

At the center of this achievement is Dr. Gholam Mujtaba, a prominent political figure, academic, and Chairman of the Pakistan Policy Institute USA. Dr. Mujtaba holds dual terminal degrees—an MD and an Ed.D.—and is a distinguished alumnus of King’s College London. He has served as a cabinet-level advisor to former U.S. President Donald J. Trump and remains an elected senior member of the Republican Party.

Four of Dr. Mujtaba’s children have earned doctoral-level qualifications in medicine, nursing, and public policy, while two others are pursuing careers in healthcare and business.

Profiles of Achievement

Dr. Athar Mujtaba, DNP-FNP, MD, MS, MBA, is an alumnus of Duke University and Pace University. He holds four terminal qualifications and is preparing to contest a competitive congressional race in the United States in 2026.

Dr. Assad Mujtaba, DNP-FNP, MD, MBA, a graduate of New York University, combines healthcare leadership with political engagement. He garnered over 85,000 votes in a recent countywide election, gaining national attention.

Dr. Tarannum Mujtaba, MD, MBA, is a University of Chicago-trained physician specializing in Neuroradiology and Breast Imaging, with dual fellowship training in both fields.

Dr. Ayesha Mujtaba, FNP, ARNP, MBA, MD, is an alumnus of the Frontier University of Kentucky. She is a certified nurse practitioner and family medicine physician with additional business credentials.

Two other family members continue to expand the family’s professional footprint:

Ahsan Mujtaba, AS, BS, CRB, a graduate of Georgia State University, is a certified real estate broker engaged in business development.

Hyder Mujtaba, MS, MSN, RN, NP-C (Cand.), is a graduate of Columbia University and a Nurse Practitioner candidate with a focus on infectious diseases. He is expected to pursue a doctoral path in the near future.

Symbol of Immigrant Success

The Mujtaba family’s academic accomplishments have garnered praise across communities, seen as a symbol of immigrant resilience, cultural values, and the pursuit of excellence. Their success challenges stereotypes and exemplifies how Pakistani Americans continue to make significant contributions in fields such as healthcare, education, leadership, and public service.

Observers say the family stands as a rare example of collective scholarly achievement and serves as a source of pride for the global Pakistani diaspora.
