Indus Hospital Engages Over 200 Students in Climate Awareness and Sustainability Conference

KARACHI: Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) organised the third conference under its youth engagement initiative, "Meer-e-Karwan Tum Ho," bringing together more than 200 students from over 50 partner schools to promote climate awareness, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.

The conference, held on November 1 at the IHHN Korangi Campus under the theme "The Cost of Tomorrow," highlighted the growing impact of climate change on future generations and emphasised the importance of environmental conservation, responsible use of natural resources and collective action towards a sustainable future.

Students participated in interactive activities and creative competitions designed to encourage environmental awareness, leadership, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

In the Photo Voice competition for participants aged 15 to 25, Kanza Rais from Indus University of Health Sciences secured first position, while Maria Aqeel from Happy Home School System won the poster competition for children aged 8 to 16.

The conference also featured an "I Am a Hero" activity in which students participated in 10 groups, demonstrating creativity, teamwork and leadership abilities. Three groups were declared winners at the conclusion of the activity.

President and Chief Executive Officer of Indus Hospital & Health Network, Dr Abdul Bari Khan, attended the conference as chief guest and encouraged students to recognise their potential and actively contribute towards positive social and environmental change.

Addressing the participants, Dr Bari emphasised the importance of developing leadership qualities among young people and fostering a strong sense of social responsibility to address emerging challenges facing society.

The conference formed part of IHHN's broader youth engagement efforts through its Indus Yaqeen programme, launched in 2021 to involve young people in humanitarian and community development activities. The "Meer-e-Karwan Tum Ho" initiative was subsequently introduced in 2023 to nurture young talent, strengthen leadership capabilities and promote community service.

Certificates and shields were also distributed among volunteers in recognition of their exceptional contributions throughout the year.

Established in 2007, Indus Hospital & Health Network provides free healthcare services to deserving patients without discrimination while continuing to support community development, youth empowerment and social responsibility initiatives.

Through the conference, IHHN reaffirmed its commitment to inspiring future generations to become responsible leaders and contribute towards environmental sustainability and positive social change.
