European Investment Bank to support KWSC for improved water supply services in Karachi

KARACHI: The European Investment Bank has announced support for the Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation to improve water supply and distribution services in Karachi through investment in modern infrastructure projects.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation and the European Investment Bank for the establishment of advanced water filtration plants and enhancement of water distribution systems at key locations in the city.

The signing ceremony was attended by Murtaza Wahab, who is also Chairman KWSC. Managing Director KWSC Ahmed Ali Siddiqui and Head of Division of the European Investment Bank Edvardas Bumsteinas formally signed the agreement.

Under the initial phase, modern water filtration plants will be established at Gharo Pumping Station and Pipri Pumping Station. The facilities will use advanced purification technology, professional design systems and monitoring mechanisms to improve treatment standards and water supply efficiency.

Speaking on the occasion, Murtaza Wahab said the agreement was an encouraging development for Karachi and Pakistan, adding that after a decade the European Investment Bank had resumed investment in Pakistan, particularly in Karachi’s urban infrastructure and water sector.

He said the partnership would help improve sustainable water supply services, introduce environmentally responsible technologies and strengthen KWSC’s operational capacity to provide clean drinking water to more areas of the city.

Officials present at the ceremony included Secretary Local Government Sindh Waseem Shamshad, Chief Operating Officer Asadullah Khan, Chief Financial Officer Ammar Ali Khan, Chief Commercial Officer Haris Sarfaraz, Chief Communication Officer Navied Siddiqui, senior government officials and representatives of the European Investment Bank.
