UNESCO official visits University of Karachi’s ICCBS

KARACHI: The Representative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Pakistan, Fuad Pashayev, visited the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences at University of Karachi on Wednesday evening.

Director ICCBS and UNESCO Chair holder Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah welcomed the UNESCO official at the center.
During the meeting, both sides discussed matters related to the UNESCO Chair on Medicinal and Bio-Organic Natural Product Chemistry at ICCBS. Mr. Pashayev appreciated the opportunity to visit the institution and praised the advanced research facilities available at the center.

Prof. Raza Shah briefed the visiting delegation about the establishment, growth and contributions of ICCBS in the fields of molecular medicine, drug research and forensic science.

He said the UNESCO Chair promotes international inter-university cooperation and networking to strengthen institutional capacity through knowledge sharing and collaborative research.

He added that the UNESCO Chair in Medicinal and Bio-Organic Natural Product Chemistry would help Pakistan emerge as a center of excellence in this important research field while supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The visit concluded with a reaffirmation of UNESCO’s commitment to promoting scientific collaboration and capacity building in Pakistan.
