KARACHI: The faculty, students, administration, and heads of various departments at Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) staged a protest rally today, denouncing India's unilateral and unlawful suspension of the historic Indus Waters Treaty.

Led by JSMU Registrar Dr. Azam Khan and Principal of Sindh Medical College (SMC) Professor Ambreen Usmani, the rally witnessed vibrant participation from academic and non-academic staff, students, and departmental heads across the university.

Addressing the rally, Dr. Azam Khan emphasized that the Indus Waters Treaty is not merely an agreement over water distribution but a symbol of peace, cooperation, and responsible sharing of natural resources in South Asia. He condemned India’s suspension of the treaty as a serious breach of international law, ethical principles, and regional stability frameworks.

Vice Chancellor Professor Amjad Siraj Memon, in a strong statement, declared: "This act is not only an assault on Pakistan’s water rights but also a dangerous move that could escalate tensions across the region. We call upon the United Nations, the World Bank, and other international bodies to take immediate notice and exert pressure on India to reinstate the treaty in its entirety.”

Speaking to the assembled crowd, Principal SMC Professor Ambreen Usmani reaffirmed that the faculty, students, and administration of JSMU stand resolutely with the nation and will continue to voice their concerns through all available platforms on this critical national issue.

The protest rally was organized under the supervision of JSMU’s Director of Administration, Mr. Sohrab Zaman, with full support from all departments of the university.
