Joint Strategy for Traffic Management During Ramadan Essential, Says Deputy Mayor Karachi

KARACHI: Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad has stressed the need for a coordinated and comprehensive traffic management strategy during the holy month of Ramadan, stating that unusual congestion in markets and on major roads demands timely planning and collective action.

Addressing a joint workshop held at the head office of the City Institute of Image Management (CIIM) of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the Deputy Mayor said that measures taken to improve traffic flow are of great importance for citizens, particularly during Ramadan when traffic pressure significantly increases.

He noted that an organized traffic system not only saves time but also protects citizens from mental stress and daily inconveniences. “Timely planning by relevant institutions plays a key role in ensuring public convenience,” he said, adding that improved traffic management is only possible through mutual cooperation between citizens and concerned authorities.

Murad emphasized that road safety awareness programs are the need of the hour and play an important role in reducing accidents and promoting civic discipline. He termed the measures being taken to streamline traffic during Ramadan as commendable and reiterated that facilitating citizens remains a top priority. He further assured that the city administration would work closely with traffic police, city wardens, and other institutions to ensure smooth traffic flow during the holy month.

The workshop was jointly organized by the traffic police, Pakistan Red Crescent Society (Sindh), and the City Wardens Department. Among those present were Commander (Retd.) Ali Haider of the Pakistan Navy, Ali Sahag, in-charge of the Sindh Police Accident Analysis and Research Center (SPAARC), representative of DIG Traffic S.O. Nasir Ahmed, mind science expert Mehrin Mushtaq, Director Shahid of CIIM, and officials and representatives of relevant institutions.

Ali Sahag delivered a detailed presentation on managing impatient drivers and effective traffic control during Ramadan. He urged citizens to exercise patience, tolerance, and strict adherence to traffic laws.

Other speakers, including Commander (Retd.) Ali Haider, S.O. Nasir Ahmed, and Mehrin Mushtaq, highlighted that awareness about traffic management is as important as practical enforcement measures. They stressed that informing the public about traffic rules, alternate routes, and improved parking arrangements can significantly reduce congestion. They also underscored the importance of guidance through media, social platforms, and field staff.

Speakers further emphasized the need for coordinated strategies and inter-departmental cooperation to ensure that citizens do not face difficulties while commuting during Ramadan. Effective coordination between traffic police, municipal institutions, and other departments, they said, would help minimize traffic issues and improve travel facilities for the public.

At the conclusion of the workshop, shields were distributed among participants, who reaffirmed their commitment to promoting road safety awareness and strengthening collaboration for better traffic management in the city.
