KARACHI: Renowned Pakistani scientist and Director of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, Prof. Dr. M. Raza Shah has been appointed as an Executive Member of the Asia-Pacific Traditional Medicine Pharmacopoeia Commission (APTMPC), established in China.
According to an ICCBS spokesperson, the appointment was made during the second meeting of the APTMPC held in China in early June 2026. The commission comprises leading experts from several countries, including China, Japan, South Korea, India, and Malaysia.
The commission aims to promote the sound development of traditional medicine across the Asia-Pacific region and provide technical support for the safe, effective, and rational use of traditional medicines.
Prof. Dr. Raza Shah is internationally recognized for his outstanding contributions to scientific research. He has authored more than 560 research publications with a cumulative impact factor exceeding 2,000 and has received over 13,900 citations. He holds an H-index of 59 and has authored seven books, edited four books, and contributed eight book chapters published by Elsevier. He is also the holder of several Pakistani and United States patents.
His distinguished career has earned him numerous national and international accolades, including the prestigious Khwarizmi International Award from Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (2015), Dr. Raziuddin Prize (2015), Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman Gold Medal of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, Avicenna Science & Innovation Award (2015) by Brain Trust UK, and the Abdus Salam Award in Chemistry (2006).
In 2010, he was named a TWAS Young Affiliate by The World Academy of Sciences and was recognized among the Top Scientists of 2019 by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Prof. Dr. Raza Shah currently serves as President of the Chemical Society of Pakistan, is a Fellow of several prestigious scientific organizations, and is the Editor of the Journal of the Chemical Society of Pakistan.
His appointment to the Asia-Pacific Traditional Medicine Pharmacopoeia Commission is being viewed as a significant achievement for Pakistan’s scientific community and a recognition of the country’s growing contribution to international scientific research and traditional medicine development.
