ISLAMABAD: The special polio vaccination campaign continued for the sixth consecutive day on Saturday across selected districts of Pakistan, with more than 27.7 million children vaccinated during the first five days, according to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).
The campaign, which began on September 21, will continue until September 27 in selected districts across the country. More than 273,000 polio workers are going door-to-door to administer oral polio vaccine to eligible children and protect them against the crippling disease.
According to the NEOC, more than 7.898 million children have so far been vaccinated in selected districts of Punjab, while over 9.880 million children have received polio drops across 30 selected districts of Sindh.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, more than 7.122 million children have been vaccinated across 37 selected districts, while over 2.249 million children have received polio drops in 32 selected districts of Balochistan.
More than 443,000 children have been vaccinated in Islamabad, while approximately 140,000 children have received polio drops in two selected districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The NEOC reiterated that polio is an incurable disease but can be prevented through vaccination, urging parents and caregivers to ensure that every child under five years of age receives polio drops during the ongoing campaign.
“Polio workers are coming to your doorstep with a message of hope and protection. Please cooperate with them,” the NEOC appealed.
