KARACHI: The Pakistan Paediatric Association (PPA) Sindh has endorsed the upcoming polio vaccination campaign scheduled for September 21-27 and urged parents and caregivers to ensure that every child under five receives polio drops during the drive.
In a letter of support, PPA Sindh said vaccination remains one of the safest and most effective ways to protect children from polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases. The association called on families to welcome frontline polio workers, ensure their children receive polio drops during every campaign and complete routine immunisations according to schedule.
The September campaign is expected to reach more than 31 million children under five across 115 districts of Pakistan.
PPA Sindh also reminded parents that polio vaccination can be administered to children experiencing mild illnesses such as fever, cough or diarrhoea, as well as during teething, and urged families not to miss vaccination opportunities on these grounds.
The association called for collective efforts by parents, healthcare professionals and communities to protect children against the crippling disease.
PPA Sindh stressed that every child deserves a healthy future and urged communities to support vaccination teams in ensuring that no eligible child is missed during the September campaign.
Supplementary polio campaigns are intended to complement, rather than replace, routine immunisation, and aim to vaccinate every child under five irrespective of previous vaccination status.
