KARACHI: More than 5.8 million children have been vaccinated against polio across Sindh during the first two days of the ongoing Sub-National Immunization Days (SNIDs), as the campaign entered its third day on Tuesday, September 23, according to the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Sindh.
The EOC Sindh said the Sub-National Polio Vaccination Campaign is being conducted across all 30 districts of the province from September 21 to 27, with nearly 10 million children targeted for vaccination against the crippling disease.
More than 80,000 polio workers, vaccinators and supervisors have been deployed across Sindh and are going door-to-door to ensure that eligible children receive the polio vaccine.
The EOC Sindh stressed that polio is an incurable disease but can be prevented through vaccination, urging parents and caregivers to cooperate with frontline polio teams visiting their homes.
“Polio workers are coming to your doorstep with a message of hope and protection. Please cooperate with them,” the EOC Sindh said.
Parents have been urged to ensure that every child under the age of five receives two drops of the polio vaccine during the ongoing campaign, regardless of previous vaccination history.
The EOC Sindh also advised citizens seeking assistance, information or guidance regarding polio vaccination teams to contact the Sehat Tahaffuz Helpline at 1166.
The seven-day campaign will continue across Sindh until September 27.
