KARACH: The Young Doctors Association (YDA), Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) Unit, staged a strong protest outside the hospital's OPD Complex against the alleged brutal assault on doctors the previous night, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible and registration of a First Information Report (FIR).
According to a press release issued by the YDA JPMC Unit, doctors were subjected to severe physical violence during the incident. One doctor reportedly suffered a bone fracture, while another sustained serious injuries to the eye and other parts of the body.
The association strongly condemned the incident, describing it as unacceptable and a serious threat to the safety and dignity of healthcare professionals.
The protesting doctors issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the hospital administration and relevant authorities, demanding the immediate registration of an FIR and arrest of the suspects involved in the attack.
The YDA warned that failure to take effective action within the stipulated period would compel the association to expand its protest and suspend medical services at the hospital.
According to the association, the next phase of the protest could include a complete boycott of outpatient departments (OPDs), operation theatres and other medical services. The YDA stated that the hospital administration would be held responsible for any disruption resulting from its failure to address the doctors' demands.
The association also demanded that no protection or patronage be extended to individuals involved in the alleged assault and that strict legal action be taken against them.
Highlighting security concerns within the hospital, the YDA called for the immediate implementation of a policy allowing only one attendant per patient in the emergency department to ensure the safety of patients, doctors and other healthcare workers.
The association further demanded action against what it described as private mafias and illegal activities operating within JPMC, stressing the need to restore discipline, security and effective administrative control across the hospital.
The YDA JPMC Unit reiterated that it would not compromise on the dignity, safety and lives of doctors under any circumstances.
The association urged the hospital administration and law enforcement authorities to take immediate and decisive measures, warning that failure to respond to its demands would lead to intensified protests and a possible complete boycott of medical services.
