CAA Installs Dedicated Breastfeeding Cabins at Domestic Airports in Pakistan

KARACHI: In a landmark move to support maternal and child health, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has established separate breastfeeding cabins at various domestic airports across the country. The initiative, supported by UNICEF Pakistan and the Accelerated Action Plan for Reduction of Stunting and Malnutrition in Sindh, aims to facilitate traveling mothers and ensure privacy and comfort while feeding their newborns.

The newly installed cabins will offer a safe, hygienic, and private space for mothers to breastfeed their babies, addressing a longstanding challenge faced by women traveling with infants.

“Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure a child’s health and survival,” said a CAA spokesperson. “We’re committed to creating mother-friendly environments at our facilities.”

The initiative comes as part of broader efforts to promote early childhood nutrition and reduce the country’s high rates of childhood stunting and malnutrition.

Health experts and civil society groups have welcomed the move, calling it a progressive step toward building inclusive and supportive public spaces for mothers.

This action is especially timely, as World Breastfeeding Week (1–7 August) is being observed worldwide with the theme: “Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems.”
