CM Sindh approves new cost model for regional blood centers and PPP health projects

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved an innovative cost-based model for the Regional Blood Centers (RBCs) in Sukkur, Karachi, and Shaheed Benazirabad to improve blood supply services across the province.

The decision was taken during a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House, attended by provincial ministers, board members, and senior officials.

Under the new model, each Regional Blood Center will provide around 250,000 blood bags annually to designated hospital blood banks. The initiative aims to meet the growing demand for safe blood in public hospitals. Patients will receive blood bags free of cost from these hospitals.

The Public–Private Partnership (PPP) Policy Board also approved funding for feasibility studies and advisory services to outsource radiology and diagnostic laboratory services at Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Karachi.

According to the Health Department, the projects will be implemented under the PPP mode to enhance diagnostic services and ensure proper installation and maintenance of modern machines such as MRI, CT scan, digital X-ray, ultrasound, and echocardiography systems.

Private partners will invest in new machinery, upgrade existing systems, deploy trained staff, and ensure timely issuance of reports to provide quality and efficient diagnostic facilities.

The Board also approved the revised 10th annual budget of the Sindh Government Children’s Hospital for October 2025 to September 2026, amounting to Rs. 738.65 million, including Rs. 95.12 million in capital expenditure for the final year.

Additionally, the PPP Board approved PDF funding for feasibility studies of upcoming health projects expected to begin in the coming months.
