KARACHI: A Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (DR-TB) awareness program has been launched in 15 districts of Sindh with the support of Bridge Consultants Foundation (BCF) and in partnership with Stop TB, aiming to educate communities about the risks, prevention, and treatment of drug-resistant TB.

The initiative is being implemented in districts including Shikarpur, Sanghar, Mirpur Khas, Badin, Jacobabad, Nawabshah, Kashmore, Naushahro Feroze, Thatta, Tharparkar, and several other areas of Sindh as part of ongoing efforts under the Stop TB Partnership to strengthen public awareness and response to tuberculosis and its drug-resistant forms.

Under the program, trained community mobilizers are disseminating critical information on drug-resistant TB through direct community engagement and the distribution of educational pamphlets.

The outreach focuses on helping people understand what drug-resistant TB is, how it develops, its symptoms, and the importance of timely diagnosis and complete treatment.

Drug-resistant TB is a serious form of tuberculosis that does not respond to standard TB medicines and often emerges when patients fail to complete their prescribed treatment or interrupt medication.

The awareness sessions emphasize preventive measures, treatment adherence, and inform communities about the availability of free TB diagnosis and treatment services.

According to organizers, since its launch, the program has reached more than 800 people, enhancing community understanding of drug-resistant TB and reinforcing the importance of completing the full course of TB treatment to prevent resistance.
The initiative is being closely monitored and supported by BCF in collaboration with Stop TB to ensure effective implementation, accurate messaging, and improved community access to free TB care services across the targeted districts.
