KARACHI: In response to the escalating regional security concerns and the threat posed by recent Indian air strikes, the Sindh government has declared an emergency in all public and private blood banks across the province.
The decision was formally communicated through an official notification issued by the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority (SBTA), a wing of the Department of Health, Government of Sindh.
The notification, signed by Dr. Dur-e-Naz Jamal, Secretary of SBTA, directs all District Health Officers (DHOs) in Sindh—including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and other districts—to ensure that blood banks remain fully operational under high alert and emergency protocols.
According to the notification (Ref No. 1051/60-SBTA), all blood banks must be vigilant and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) while maintaining an adequate stock of blood and essential transfusion products. The directive applies to both public and private sector facilities. DHOs are tasked with overseeing emergency preparedness, ensuring readiness to deal with any untoward incidents that may arise during the ongoing regional tension.
Officials are requested to direct the Focal Person SBTA at your district to visit all the blood banks and ensure the stock of blood and its products to deal with the occurrence of any untoward event.

The emergency declaration has been circulated to key stakeholders, including the Director General Health Services Hyderabad, Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, district focal persons, and officials in the Health and Population Welfare Department.
This move comes amid heightened military activity in the region, with authorities aiming to ensure that the province's healthcare infrastructure remains responsive and resilient.
