KARACHI: The first confirmed case of Congo virus (Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever - CCHF) in Sindh this year has been reported from District Malir, Karachi. The patient, a 42-year-old male resident, tested positive for the virus on June 16, 2025.
Health officials confirmed that the patient succumbed to the disease just a day later, on June 17, marking a tragic start to the 2025 CCHF season in Sindh.
This is the first documented case of Congo virus infection in the province this year. Health authorities have launched contact tracing and precautionary measures in the area to prevent further spread of the disease.
The Congo virus is transmitted to humans through tick bites or contact with infected animal blood or tissues, often during slaughtering. It can also spread from person to person through bodily fluids. With Eid-ul-Azha approaching, health experts have urged the public and livestock handlers to adopt strict hygiene and protective measures.
