Government Reaffirms Support for Modern Technology and Public Service Expansion in Health, Education

KARACHI: The inaugural Pre-Conference Workshop of the International Medical Education Conference (IMECon 2026) was held at Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry (LCMD), with Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui attending as the chief guest.

The ceremony was attended by Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Health Senator Aamir Waliuddin Chishti, President College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, senators, medical education experts, LCMD administration, faculty members, and students.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui stated that the government is providing full support for the introduction and expansion of modern technology in the health and education sectors to enhance public service delivery. He said the government’s focus is on equipping students with contemporary skills and knowledge so they can effectively contribute to society.

The federal minister appreciated the academic progress of LCMD and the leadership role of Senator Aamir Waliuddin Chishti, stating that under his guidance the institution has emerged as a comprehensive and quality-driven medical education center. He said LCMD has promoted transparency, hands-on medical training, and advanced healthcare services, making it a source of pride for the country.

In his address, Senator Aamir Waliuddin Chishti said that medical education institutions are established to serve long-term national and societal objectives rather than short-term gains. He emphasized that LCMD’s vision is rooted in national needs, quality education, transparency, and community service, adding that the institution focuses equally on academic excellence, ethical values, and professional development.

Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal stated that CPSP has undertaken major reforms to strengthen medical education standards, faculty development, and examination systems across Pakistan. He said CPSP’s accreditation and guidance have enabled institutions like LCMD to offer training programs aligned with international standards through transparent and merit-based systems.

Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri emphasized that ensuring equality, transparency, and quality in health and education is a shared national responsibility. She said medical education should primarily serve the public interest and remain accessible to all segments of society.

Senator Sarmad Ali highlighted the need for unified education policies, administrative reforms, and strong institutional governance, stressing that transparency and quality are essential for Pakistan’s medical education system to compete at the global level.

Vice Chairman LCMD Dr. Ali Farhan Razi reviewed LCMD’s 26-year academic journey, stating that sustained collaboration, CPSP mentorship, and administrative dedication have established the institution as a reputable center for academic excellence and professional training.

Principal College of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Naveed Rashid Qureshi said that over the past two decades LCMD has produced a significant number of qualified professionals through its MBBS and BDS programs. He highlighted the role of FCPS and MCPS residency programs, high-volume clinical exposure, and the Certificate in Health Professions Education (CHPE) in strengthening teaching and clinical skills.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Principal College of Medicine Prof. Dr. Rashid Naseem Khan thanked the chief guest, senators, CPSP leadership, and LCMD management for their continued guidance and support. He said the pre-conference workshop not only reflected the standards of medical education in Pakistan but also strengthened the country’s academic visibility at the international level.

The participants reaffirmed their commitment to promoting quality, transparency, and professional excellence in medical education for future generations.
