NICVD Offers Free Life-Saving Heart Surgeries to Pakistani Siblings Referred Back from India

KARACHI: In a compassionate and prompt response, the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Karachi, has taken full responsibility for the treatment of two Pakistani children—9-year-old Abdullah and 7-year-old Minsa—both diagnosed with congenital heart conditions and recently referred back from India.

Upon the family's return to Pakistan, NICVD swiftly constituted a high-level medical board comprising a pediatric cardiac surgeon, pediatric cardiologist, anesthesiologist, and CT imaging specialist to assess the children's condition and determine the best course of treatment.

After a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, the board confirmed that both Abdullah and Minsa are eligible for safe surgical intervention at NICVD Karachi, eliminating the need for treatment abroad.

The children’s father was thoroughly briefed by NICVD’s senior medical team regarding the surgical procedures, expected outcomes, and post-operative care. Deeply reassured by the hospital’s expertise and facilities, the father expressed full confidence in NICVD’s capabilities, stating that the institution has restored hope for his family after the distressing and costly ordeal in India.

Before proceeding, the father has sought a second opinion at the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC), Rawalpindi, after which the surgeries will be scheduled.

In line with the vision of NICVD and the Government of Sindh, both surgeries will be performed entirely free of cost—a testament to NICVD’s commitment to providing world-class cardiac care to all Pakistanis, regardless of financial background.

As Pakistan’s premier cardiac care institution, NICVD continues to lead in both adult and pediatric cardiology, often offering services that surpass international standards. It proudly stands by its mission:
“No cardiac patient in Pakistan should be deprived of treatment.”
