ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has taken serious notice of a reported incident involving the alleged filming of patients during surgical procedures at Lady Willingdon Hospital in Lahore.

According to initial reports, a video recorded inside an operating theatre, purportedly showing medical staff engaging in unprofessional conduct during surgeries, has gone viral on social media. The incident has raised significant concerns regarding patient dignity, confidentiality, and adherence to medical ethics.
The PM&DC has issued formal notices to the hospital administration and the doctors allegedly involved in recording and sharing the video. The Council has directed all concerned individuals to submit detailed explanations outlining their roles and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In its statement, the PM&DC emphasized that recording patients without consent, particularly in sensitive clinical settings such as operating theatres, constitutes a serious breach of professional ethics and may violate patient rights and confidentiality standards.
President PM&DC, Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj, said that such actions are unacceptable and will be dealt with strictly under the relevant regulatory framework.
The Council has sought comprehensive details, including the identification of doctors involved in filming and dissemination of the footage, any consent procedures followed prior to recording, and disciplinary measures taken by the hospital administration.
The PM&DC stated that it will review the responses upon receipt and initiate appropriate regulatory action, including disciplinary proceedings against those found responsible. It reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards ethical violations, particularly those compromising patient dignity and confidentiality.
The Council further reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding patient rights, ensuring ethical medical practices, and maintaining public trust in the healthcare system.
