Prof. Sammer Yousuf elected fellow of The World Academy of Sciences

KARACHI: Dr. Sammer Yousuf, Professor of Chemistry at the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, has been elected as a Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for the advancement of science in developing countries. Her fellowship will be effective from January 1, 2026.

Prof. Yousuf is widely recognized for her outstanding contributions in structural organic and natural product chemistry. She has edited six books and contributed five chapters in international publications. With over 260 research papers published in leading scientific journals, her work has earned more than 3,900 citations and an h-index of 32 on Google Scholar.

A pioneer of crystal engineering in Pakistan, Prof. Yousuf established the country’s first crystal-engineering laboratory at ICCBS. In 2019, she played a key role in the Pakistan Hub of the global project “A Global Network for Tropical Neglected Diseases (NTD)”, funded by the UK’s Global Challenges Research Fund and managed by Durham University. The NTD-Network team’s groundbreaking research on leishmaniasis led to their recognition with the Medical Research Council (MRC) Impact Prize 2023, one of the UK’s most prestigious scientific awards.

Her accolades also include being named an OIC-COMSTECH Distinguished Scholar, Member of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, TWAS Young Affiliate (2013), and recipient of the TWAS Regional Prize for Young Scientists (2012).

Congratulating her on this remarkable achievement, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah, Director of ICCBS, University of Karachi, said that Prof. Yousuf’s election as a TWAS Fellow is a great honor for Pakistan and a testament to her dedication to advancing scientific research in the developing world.
