“SaveLiver Pakistan” Launches Hepatitis Drive for Hemophilia Patients at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital

KARACHI: “SaveLiver Pakistan” Joins Hands to Protect Liver Health in Hemophilia Bleeding Disorders. Connecting Communities. Stopping Hepatitis. Saving Lives. — A Call by Pakistan Society for the Study of Liver Diseases(PSSLD) in collaboration with Hemophilia Welfare Society Karachi (HWSK), Liver Foundation, and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Held at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the event titled:

“Protecting Liver Health in Hemophilia: Awareness, Screening & Vaccination for a Healthier Future”

Hemophilia bleeding disorder patients, due to lifelong dependence on blood transfusions and plasma-derived clotting factors, face a significantly elevated risk of contracting Hepatitis B and C — both of which can lead to chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, and even liver cancer. Despite the danger, routine screening and preventive vaccination remain underutilized.

The program aimed to address this gap directly through a community-centered approach combining awareness, screening, and free vaccination — all under one roof. 100 individuals received free hepatitis screening & vaccinations — a milestone for hepatitis prevention in the hemophilia bleeding disorders community.

• Medical experts delivered educational talks on liver health, early detection, and treatment options for hepatitis in vulnerable populations.
• Informative materials were distributed to promote safe transfusion practices and infection control protocols.

Distinguished Participants Included:

• Prof. Wasim Jafri – Senior Hepatologist
• Prof. Saeed Hamid – Liver Disease Specialist
• Prof. Zahid Azam – Consultant Gastroenterologist
• Dr. Muhammad Kamran – Infectious Disease Expert
• Mr. Raheel Ahmed Khan, CEO – Hemophilia Welfare Society Karachi
• Mr. Aziz, Director – Liver Foundation
• Dr. Faisal Samdani, Director – Abbasi Shaheed Hospital
• Prof. Qaiser Jamal, HOD, Dept. of Medicine – Abbasi Shaheed Hospital

The event closed on a note of gratitude and renewed resolve. Organizers extended thanks to the dedicated teams of doctors, nurses, lab technicians, volunteers, and supporters who made the initiative possible. The message was clear: Preventive care saves lives, and collaboration is key.

As Pakistan moves forward with its “SaveLiver” campaign, today’s success sets a powerful example of what can be achieved when institutions, professionals, and communities work together.
