Sindh strengthens province-wide dengue prevention and control drive

KARACHI: The Sindh government has intensified dengue control efforts across the province following the directives of Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah. Commissioners of Karachi and Hyderabad Divisions have submitted detailed progress reports highlighting extensive fumigation, public awareness, and larval elimination operations.

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi reported that fumigation and spray operations have been completed in 150 Union Councils across Karachi Division, with remaining areas expected to be covered within three days. He stated that Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) was carried out in 322 houses where dengue-positive cases were detected. The Control Room received 14 complaints in the last four days, all of which were resolved promptly.

In Hyderabad Division, Commissioner Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi confirmed that anti-dengue operations are being conducted daily as part of a comprehensive campaign. Surveys identified 30 sensitive Union Councils—9 in Taluka City, 9 in Taluka Qasimabad, and 12 in Taluka Latifabad—housing more than 410,000 residents. Preventive measures included clearing 229 water sites, fumigation at 2,241 locations, and IRS in 17,008 rooms across 7,057 homes. Additionally, 3,698 community awareness sessions were organized in hotspot areas to educate residents about dengue prevention and hygiene. The Control Room received 46 complaints, all resolved, and 340 hospital beds have been reserved for dengue patients in 17 public and private hospitals.

Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Hyder Shah directed all divisional and district administrations to further intensify their dengue response operations, ensuring fumigation and awareness campaigns cover every household in hotspot areas. He emphasized that strict monitoring, timely action, and citizen cooperation are vital to containing the spread of dengue across Sindh.
