KARACHI: The Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) Mariyam Bashir Dawood Children Hospital marked World Patient Safety Day with a series of engaging activities aimed at promoting awareness and patient education.

This year’s theme, “Safe Care for Every Newborn and Every Child,” underscored the particular vulnerability of children with congenital ailments and highlighted the moral and professional duty to ensure dignity and quality in healthcare.
Medical experts at SIUT emphasized that patient safety requires the collective efforts of parents, doctors, caregivers, and the broader community. They stressed that strengthening pediatric and neonatal care is critical to reducing preventable deaths among children under the age of five.
During the event, children with cardiac and urological conditions, along with their parents, participated in interactive sessions. Caregivers, doctors, and families shared real-life stories demonstrating how small, everyday steps in clinical practice and family involvement can make a significant difference in saving lives and preventing harm.
Speakers drew attention to key areas for improving child health, including safe childbirth, newborn care, medication safety, infection prevention, proper nutrition, and rehabilitation.
The event was attended by a large number of children, their families, SIUT medical professionals, staff members, and community representatives.
Since its inception, SIUT has provided free medical treatment with dignity and compassion to all patients, regardless of caste, color, creed, or religious belief, reinforcing its commitment to equitable healthcare for all.
