KARACHI: After nearly three decades of service in operation theatres, senior technician Akhtiar Ahmed Solangi has authored OT Technician’s Handbook, a first-of-its-kind contribution from Pakistan to help guide young technicians and medical students.
With over 25 years at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Karachi, Mr. Solangi has worked as an OT Technician, OT Incharge, and Assistant. His career began in the private sector with modest earnings, but under the mentorship of renowned doctors including Dr. Qurban and Prof. Dr. Anisuddin Bhatti, he gained expertise and later secured a government post at JPMC.
Born in the small village of Mitho Khan Solangi, District Naushero Feroze, he overcame financial and social hardships to pursue education and training. Guided by the values of his late father, Muhammad Parial Solangi, he dedicated his career to hard work, equality, and knowledge-sharing.
The newly launched OT Technician’s Handbook documents his practical experiences, lessons, and insights from the operation theatre, offering valuable guidance for aspiring healthcare professionals.
“This book is a humble effort to support the new generation of technicians and medical students,” Mr. Solangi said. “It is dedicated to my father, whose teachings shaped my career and life.”
The publication not only highlights the crucial but often overlooked role of OT technicians in healthcare but also serves as an educational resource that bridges professional practice and academic learning.
