3rd Symposium on Forensic DNA to Highlight Disaster Management and Justice on Thursday at ICCBS

KARACHI: The 3rd Symposium on “Utility of Forensic DNA in Disaster Management and the Criminal Justice System” will be held on Thursday morning at the Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), University of Karachi.

Organized by the Sindh Forensic DNA and Serology Laboratory (SFDL), the one-day event aims to bring together key stakeholders from civil and military institutions, government departments, and welfare organizations engaged in disaster management, investigation, and the criminal justice system. Representatives from the Pakistan armed forces, Rangers, police, judiciary, Red Cross, and various rescue and relief agencies will participate.

Provincial Health Secretary Rehan Iqbal Baloch will attend as the chief guest and deliver the opening address during the inaugural session scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Prof. Salimuzzaman Siddiqui Auditorium. Other distinguished speakers include Prof. Dr. Khalid Mehmood Iraqi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi; Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman, Professor Emeritus and former Federal Minister for Science and Technology; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah, Director of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS); Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH; Ms. Nadira Panjwani, Chairperson of the Dr. Panjwani Memorial Trust; Mr. Aziz Latif Jamal, Chairman of the Husein Ebrahim Jamal Foundation; and Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan, Project Director and In-charge of SFDL.

In a preparatory meeting, ICCBS Director Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah emphasized that the symposium will serve as a vital platform to connect experts in rescue operations and disaster management with professionals from investigation, prosecution, and the judiciary—the core pillars of Pakistan’s criminal justice system.
