KARACHI: Aligarh Institute of Technology (AIT), in collaboration with the Provincial Tobacco Control Cell Sindh (PTCCS), hosted a powerful and engaging event in observance of World No Tobacco Day, aiming to educate and empower youth against the use of tobacco and emerging nicotine products.
The event featured a compelling panel discussion alongside a creative poster and art exhibition, with students enthusiastically expressing their perspectives on pressing issues such as “Protecting Youth from Modern Tobacco Products,” “Smoking—A Silent Poison,” and “Smoking as a Cause of Lung Cancer.”
Dr. Haq Nawaz Abbasi, Chairman of Environmental Science at the Federal Urdu University, and Dr. Waqar Ahmed, Lecturer in Environmental Science, served as judges for the event. Both praised the students for their meaningful presentations and artistic contributions, highlighting the depth of thought and creativity displayed.
The guest of honor, Mr. Imran Ali Solangi, Commissioner of PTCCS, was presented with a commemorative shield by the Aligarh Institute. In his address, he applauded the students' efforts and underscored the importance of collective action to combat tobacco use, especially among the younger generation.
Mr. Shahid Jameel, Principal of AIT, described the campaign as a vital and positive initiative to protect youth through education. Convener Syed Muhammad Mohsin Kazim reaffirmed AIT’s commitment to continuing its anti-tobacco advocacy in partnership with the Sindh Government.
The event was successfully organized by the DIIL Department and the Guidance Center of AIT, with valuable support from PTCCS Coordinators Mr. Tanveer Qaimkhani and Mr. Bilal Zafar.
The program concluded with the awarding of shields to outstanding student contributors, acknowledging their creativity and commitment to the cause.
