Karachi: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has strongly condemned the violent mob attack on Kohi Goth Hospital in Landhi, Karachi, terming it a heinous crime against humanity and a direct assault on the country’s fragile healthcare system.

In a strongly worded statement, PMA Secretary General Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Shoro expressed deep concern and sorrow over the brutal incident in which a mob from nearby villages reportedly stormed the 250-bed charitable hospital, attacked staff members with sticks and stones, damaged ambulances, and vandalized critical infrastructure.

“This barbaric attack on a healthcare facility that provides free, quality treatment to the poor and underprivileged—particularly for women suffering from obstetric fistula—is utterly unacceptable,” Dr. Shoro stated. “Hospitals are sanctuaries for the sick, and any violence against them is a disgraceful act that must be condemned in the strongest terms.”

Kohi Goth Hospital is known for its free services to marginalized communities, especially women requiring specialized gynecological care. The attack not only disrupted essential services but also left staff members traumatized and infrastructure damaged.

Dr. Shoro called on law enforcement agencies to immediately identify and apprehend those responsible, demanding that justice be served swiftly to deter such attacks in the future. He also urged the government to provide enhanced security to hospitals and medical personnel across the country.

“The doctors, nurses, and staff who serve patients selflessly deserve protection and respect. The PMA stands in full solidarity with the team at Kohi Goth Hospital,” the statement added.

The PMA further appealed to society to foster a culture of respect and protection for healthcare institutions, emphasizing that Pakistan cannot afford to lose vital medical services due to acts of violence and lawlessness.
