KARACHI: The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), in collaboration with UNICEF and other key partners, organized a Social Behaviour Change (SBC) Consultation Workshop in Karachi to identify effective strategies for improving family well-being—particularly focusing on young children and adolescent girls—through targeted social interventions.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Zulfiqar Shaikh, Director General of BISP, emphasized the importance of integrating behavior change approaches into social protection initiatives. He highlighted that BISP continues to provide essential assistance to vulnerable communities across Pakistan and underscored the success of the Benazir Nashonuma Programme, which provides nutrition and health support to pregnant and lactating women, as well as children aged 6 to 24 months registered under BISP.
The workshop served as a collaborative platform to explore practical and scalable methods for embedding Social Behaviour Change strategies into BISP programmes. Through interactive sessions and group discussions, representatives from government institutions, civil society, and development partners exchanged insights, evidence, and field experiences to strengthen community engagement and behavior change communication.
Participants agreed that integrating social behavior interventions into social protection frameworks is vital for sustainable development. The consultation marked an important step toward enhancing the impact of social protection in Pakistan—ensuring that financial support is complemented by initiatives promoting healthier practices, improved nutrition, and long-term family resilience.
