KARACHI: Healthcare and pharmaceutical stakeholders have discussed measures to strengthen treatment and long-term care for people living with haemophilia and other bleeding disorders, with particular focus on ensuring the consistent availability of life-saving clotting factor concentrates across Pakistan.

The meeting brought together Dr. Saif-ur-Rehman Khattak, Director and Federal Government Analyst at the Central Drug Laboratory (CDL), Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP); Farooq Bukhari, Chief Executive Officer of Mediflow Pharmaceuticals (Pvt.) Ltd. and former Chairman of the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association (PPMA); and representatives of the Hemophilia Welfare Society Karachi Pakistan (HWSK).

The discussions focused on strengthening the import and availability of clotting factor concentrates, improving coordination between regulatory authorities and pharmaceutical stakeholders, and addressing barriers that can delay patients’ access to essential treatment.
Participants emphasised that people with haemophilia require uninterrupted access to appropriate clotting factors to prevent serious bleeding episodes, disabilities and other potentially life-threatening complications.
The meeting also examined the challenges and prospects of establishing plasma fractionation facilities in Pakistan. Participants observed that developing national capacity for plasma-derived medicines could reduce dependence on imported products and contribute to the country’s long-term healthcare security.
The stakeholders expressed their commitment to continued dialogue and coordinated efforts aimed at improving access to safe and effective treatment for people living with haemophilia and other bleeding disorders throughout Pakistan.
